Common Misconceptions

(Surprised? or have your own question?)

3. Reform Jews do not wear kippot.

There are Reform Jews who choose to wear a kippah and there are Reform Jews who choose not to wear a kippah.

It has generally been the case that the individual Reform synagogue establishes a policy concerning the custom of kippot for its programs and worship experiences. In many Reform congregations, the wearing of kippot is an expectation for those on the pulpit, but a matter of choice for all others. There are few or no kippot worn in some congregations and an even mix in others. As Reform Judaism continues to evolve, more Reform Jews, both men and women, choose to wear kippot if it reflects their personal perception of liberal Jewish behavior.

or 4. Reform Jews do not keep kosher.
